I developed my approach to counseling following
multiple years of clinical practice and teaching. Many of my
original clients had been in therapy before, often for more than a year,
working on the same problems with little positive change to report. They seemed
stuck in their problematic thinking, feeling, and doing. I realized I needed to
provide them with something different - A different type of counseling focused
on the principles of hope, change, and competence.
Since then, I have
seen my clients more effectively manage work/life stress, connect more deeply
with their partners, decrease their depression and sense of loneliness, improve
school-related issues, and generally feel better. They do the work; I just set
the stage.
